Palestine, Texas (June 14, 2023) – On June 11, 2023, at 5:16am, a victim called 911 to report that he was “carjacked” in the parking lot of Jucy’s Hamburgers at 2702 W. Oak St. in Palestine, TX. The victim reported that he was sitting in his vehicle in the lot when an offender opened his car door and demanded that the victim give him the vehicle. In fear for his life, the victim complied, and the suspect drove the stolen vehicle from the scene.
Four minutes later, Corporal Nathan Perkins located the stolen vehicle driving northbound on N. Sycamore St at a high rate of speed. Corporal Perkins began trying to catch up to the vehicle and observed that it made a sharp turn on E. Colorado St, ran a stop sign at E. Colorado and Royall St, and was accelerating at high speed on Royall St in an attempt to elude him. The suspect lost control of the vehicle, struck a curb, and the vehicle came to a stop in the 1000 block of S. Royall St.
Corporal Perkins ordered the suspect from the vehicle, and he was arrested and identified as Drumestic Washington, 29. During a search of Washington, he was found to have less than a gram of methamphetamine in his pants pocket. Washington was transported to the Anderson County Jail and booked for Robbery, Possession of a Controlled Substance <1G, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle.
“Because of the Officer’s quick response and high level of awareness, they were able to get this violent offender off the street.” PPD Chief Mark Harcrow said. “I commend Corporal. Perkins for a job well done.”
