Palestine Man Arrested After Fleeing on Bicycle
PALESTINE, Texas (February 8, 2023) - One man is in custody after causing a disturbance and fleeing from Police on a bicycle Monday afternoon.
Just after 12:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6th, a PPD Officer was flagged down in the 800 block of San Jacinto St. by a resident. The resident informed the Officer that he just witnessed a male subject damaging a residence nearby. The resident also stated that after the subject left the scene on a bicycle, he attempted to assault a female who was walking in the roadway.
A short time later, Officers observed a subject riding towards them on a bicycle. The resident informed Officers that this was the involved suspect. Officers then attempted to stop the suspect who refused orders to stop and took off on the bicycle. The Officers on foot were unable to stop the suspect.
PPD Motor Officer D. Humber pursued the suspect and was able to cut him off on the bicycle causing the suspect to fall off of the bike into a yard several blocks from the original call. The suspect then resisted arrest and would only identify himself as “vision”.
Officers were eventually able to place the suspect into handcuffs. Due to his lengthy criminal history, Officers were able to identify the suspect as Rashad Brookings, 39, of Palestine.
Brookings was transported to the Anderson County Jail and booked without incident for Evading Arrest w/ Previous Convictions, Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport and Fail to Identify Give False Fictitious Info.
