Historic Preservation

Founded in 1846, Palestine has a rich history that is reflected in the buildings and features that have shaped the history of the city. With over 1800 recognized historic resources, Palestine has more recognized historic resources than any other mainland Texas city.

With low cost of living, very reasonable property values, and a distinctive sense of place, Palestine is a great place to visit, keep a vacation home, or retire.

Palestine values and protects local historic resources through its preservation ordinance, which was adopted almost 25 years ago. A handbook of the City's Historic Preservation program can be found in the link below as-well-as Guidelines related to Historic Preservation.
