A City of Palestine Librarian I – Computer Instructor, supervised by the Library Director, provides reference and or circulation assistance for the public, behind the scenes support, and high level computer instruction. The Librarian I will serve 12-20 hours per week on a public service desk in either Circulation or Reference. The Librarian II – Computer Instructor performs functions in support of Patron Services. A Librarian II works a variable, 40-hour weekly schedule, including weekdays, alternate Saturdays, and at least one evening per week. Regular attendance is an essential job responsibility. High school diploma required. Associates degree in a relevant subject preferred. Microsoft Office Specialist certification or ability to obtain it within the probationary period required. Teaching skills (patience and ability to break down processes and procedures to explain to others) required. Librarian II should have good library automation skills as related to the delivery of library services and must demonstrate proficiency in Word and Excel. The position requires interacting with a variety of staff, city staff, and public. Two years experience in a library setting, business office, or related work experience or library education required. Prefer prior library circulation, reference, technology, or technical services work experience. Prior teaching experience preferred. Librarian II performs essential functions in a library environment. Librarian II should be able to shelve and retrieve books and other items on high shelves, lift up to 40 pounds, and be able to kneel, stand, bend, stoop, stretch, climb, and work in confined spaces. Utility Plant Operator
A City of Palestine Utility Plant Operator, performs a variety of duties associated with the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the water or the wastewater plant/facilities for the City of Palestine. Monitors overall operations of water or wastewater treatment plant; checks gauges, chemical dosages and feed rates; adds chemicals to maintain proper feed rates and chemical balances; checks equipment to maintain proper operation; maintains, cleans and backwashes screens, sand traps, and other devices; performs daily, scheduled and preventative maintenance on all equipment, instruments, and hand tools. A high school diploma or GED AND two years of relevant, progressively responsible water and/or wastewater treatment plant operation, plumber, construction or closely related responsibilities. Must have the time of application and must maintain a Class “C” certificate in water treatment and/or wastewater treatment from the TNRCC. May be exposed to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, extreme weather conditions, and dangerous machinery. May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky equipment, supplies and/or materials weighing up to 100 pounds. May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule/week. Wastewater Lab Technician
A City of Palestine Wastewater Lab Technician, gathers samples according to an established schedule; sets up necessary testing equipment; cleans and stores equipment following tests; undertakes and conducts water quality tests; determines pre- and post-treatment water condition; identifies trends regarding water quality at pre- and post-treatment stages; fills out, records and maintains a variety of files and records regarding sampling and testing results; notifies authorities regarding potential chemical, biological and other hazards found during pre-treatment phase. A high school diploma or GED AND one year of relevant, progressively responsible work experience conducting, monitoring, sampling and/or testing water quality or closely related responsibilities. Must be eligible to receive within one year of employment and must maintain a Level C Wastewater Operator’s certificate from TNRCC. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases and potential physical harm. May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky items, materials, equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Senior Accountant
A City of Palestine Senior Accountant, manages and oversees the day-to-day operations and functions of the Finance Department. Provide financial information to management and departments. Provide a variety of support, information and serves as a resource in both internal financial office operations and the City’s overall financial operation. Supervision of Finance Clerk and Accountant I positions. Reviews and monitors financial work and documents. Assesses departmental and overall budget status for all city departments; provides and/or responds to requests for budget status reports; oversees the work process of staff; approves disbursement of city funds; maintains and compiles a variety of financial files and records; provides reports and information for internal city and external public dissemination; responds to budget and other financial-related issues. An Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a closely related field is required. A Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting is preferred. Eight years of relevant, progressively responsible accounting, governmental accounting or closely related responsibilities in a municipal environment that included at least two years of management/supervision duties. May be required to work outside the traditional work week/schedule. Excellent computer skills are required in Microsoft Office programs. Confidentiality with financial information and employee issues is required at all times. Ability to delegate work to staff as needed. May be subjected to extreme eye strain. May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. HOLIDAYS:
10 RECOGNIZED HOLIDAYS PER YEAR.
LONGEVITY PAY:
$6.00 PER MONTH BASED ON YEARS OF SERVICE WITH THE CITY.
