Activities for adults 50 and over are provided Monday through Friday at the Palestine Senior Center, 125 Kickapoo Street. The Center is open from 8 am until 4 pm. Some activities are held in the evening hours and on week-ends.
Monday: art class
Tuesday: clogging: woodcarvers (1st Tuesday only )
Wednesday: line dancing
Thursday: square dancing (1st and 3rd Thursday) dance (2nd and 4th Thursday)
Friday: AARP tax aide (during tax season only)
Saturday: 3rd Saturday only - Domino Tournament
The center also hosts a birthday party and bridge on the third Wednesday of each month. Free health screenings such as blood pressure, cholesterol, hearing, and blood sugar are scheduled periodically. Free flu shots are given once per year, in the fall. Educational and entertainment programs are scheduled throughout the month. Monthly calendar can be seen on the website as well as the monthly menus. Homebound and on-site meals are provided to those persons 60 and over by Meals on Wheels from the Palestine Senior Center, 125 Kickapoo Street Monday through Friday. Lunch is served from 11:30 am until 12:00 pm. A donation of $2 is requested to help defray the cost of the meal. Call for reservations by 12:30 pm on the previous day, 729-0255. Homebound meals are delivered between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm. Volunteers Are needed! To request home delivery service or to volunteer, call 729-0612.
Meals on Wheels delivers meals to the elderly homebound (persons 60 and over) in Elkhart, Montalba, Tennessee Colkony, and Neches from the Palestine Senior Center five days per week, Monday through Friday. A $2 donation is asked to help defray the cost of the meal. To request meal service call 729-0612 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Volunteers are needed to help deliver the meals. Delivery time is between 10:15 am and 11:30 am. To request home delivery service or to volunteer, call 729-0612.
Provide recreational, cultural, and educational activities and events open to all seniors.
Provide a quality environment for the seniors programs and activities.
Maintain the Senior Citizens Center building and grounds in a safe and an attractive condition.
Support and Cooperate with Meals on Wheels in the delivery of their services to all seniors who wish to participate in them.
THE SENIOR CENTER IS RENTED OUT ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS FOR SPECIAL EVENTS, SUCH AS WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES AND FAMILY REUNIONS, GIVING SPECIAL PREFERENCES TO OLDER CITIZENS. A NOMINAL FEE IS CHARGED. In some instances a security guard may be required. To reserve the Center, call 903-729-6344.
